About Us

The School of Marxism of Wuhan University of Science and Technology is a key Marxist school in Hubei Province. It is the affiliated unit of the Hubei Institute of Ideological Construction (a provincial level think tank) and the “Public Opinion Research Center” of the Key Research Base of Humanities and Social sciences of Hubei Province. It is also a member of the National Marxist Theory Discipline Research Association and the Chinese Society of Scientific Socialism. It is a key project undertaking unit of the Model Marxist School of the Ministry of Education, and a standing member unit of the County-level Administration Research Association and Teaching Research Association of the Chinese Public Administration Society, the vice president unit of the Society of Scientific Socialism of Hubei Province, and the standing member unit of the Hubei Marxist Theory Research Association, the Hubei Philosophy Society, the Hubei Party History Society, the Hubei Administration Society, the Hubei Discipline Inspection and Supervision Society, etc. The school consists of the Department of Marxist Theory, the Department of Philosophy, the Department of Sinicization of Marxism, the Department of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the Department of Ideological and Political Education, the Department of Modern and Contemporary Chinese History, the MPA Teaching and Research Department, the Postgraduate Ideological and Political Teaching and Research Department, and the Situation and Policy Teaching and Research Department. Moreover, the Marxism Research Center of Wuhan University of Science and Technology, the Rural Revitalization Research Institute, the Ideological Security Research Center, the Party Building Research Center, the People’s Heroes Research Center, the Art Therapy and Mental Health Research Center, and the Chinese Studies Research Center are affiliated to the school.

The college has an undergraduate major in Marxist theory, a first-level discipline master's degree authorization point in Marxist theory (enrolling students in five second-level disciplines: the basic principles of Marxism, the studies on the Sinicization of Marxism, the ideological and political education, the studies on the basic issues of modern and contemporary Chinese history, and the Party building), and a first-level discipline master's degree authorization point in philosophy (enrolling students in second-level disciplines: Marxist philosophy, philosophy of science and technology, ethics, and Chinese philosophy). It jointly builds a second-level discipline doctoral point in public safety engineering and management and a professional degree point in MPA (Master of Public Administration). The discipline of Marxist theory is a key discipline in Hubei Province and a discipline with Chutian Scholars’ position. The school has one national high-quality resource-sharing course, two provincial-level high-quality resource-sharing courses, and two provincial-level first-class courses. In recent years, it has won the second prize of the National Teaching Achievement Award, the special prize of National Universities Teaching Exhibition of Mao Zedong Thought and Introduction to the Theoretical System of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, the first prize of the National Universities Blended Teaching Design Innovation Competition, the second prize of the National Universities Teaching Competition of the Outline of Modern and Contemporary Chinese History and Situation and Policy course, the first prize of the “Ideological and Political Course in My Heart” National University Students’ Micro Film Competition. It has presided over more than 100 scientific research projects, including those funded by the National Social Science Foundation, the Humanities and Social Sciences Projects of the Ministry of Education, and the Provincial Social Science Foundation, with the research funds reaching more than 20 million yuan.

The college currently has more than 100 full-time and part-time teachers, including 84 full-time teachers, 28 professors (including 2 second-level professors and 8 third-level professors), 41 associate professors. Two teachers have been selected into the Publicity Group of the Hubei Provincial Party Committee of the Communist Party of China, two are advisors for Decision-making Support of the Hubei Provincial Party Committee of the Communist Party of China, one has been included in the “Hundred Talents Plan in Philosophy and Social Sciences” of the “Seven Hundreds” in the field of publicity, ideology and culture of Hubei Province, one is the chief expert of the Think Tank of the Publicity Department of the Hubei Provincial Party Committee, and 20 are included in the Cultivation Plan for Young and Middle-aged Marxist Theorists in Colleges and Universities of Hubei Province. One teacher has won the Fok Ying Tung Young Teachers Award, one has won the "Five One Project" Award for Spiritual Civilization Construction in Hubei Province, and one has won the May Day Labor Medal of Hubei Province. There is one National Excellent Teacher, one of the Top Ten Ideological and Political Course Teachers in Colleges and Universities of Hubei Province, one Advanced Individual in Teachers’ Morality in Hubei Province, and two Excellent Communist Party Members in Colleges and Universities of Hubei Province. More than 10 teachers have won honorary titles such as National, Provincial and University-level Teaching Masters, Teaching Experts, Teaching Models, the Most Beautiful Teachers, and New Teaching Talents.

The school undertakes the teaching of ideological and political theory courses for undergraduate, master's and doctoral students of the whole university. It is an important base for Marxist theory education and teaching, scientific research, social services, cultural inheritance and innovation, as well as international exchanges and cooperation and shoulders a special mission in the university’s talent cultivation. The relevant disciplines of the college have been cultivating postgraduate students since the 1980s, and more than 1,000 senior specialized talents in Marxist theory, philosophy, and public administration have been sent to society. At present, there are 231 postgraduate students, 31 undergraduate students majoring in Marxist theory, 10 students of the provincial-level “Young Marxist Project”, and 100 students of the elite leading class of the university-level “Young Marxist Project”. The school has established academic ties with universities or research institutions in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Russia, Belgium, South Korea and other countries, as well as Hong Kong and Taiwan. Every year, many teachers and students go abroad for further studies or academic exchanges.
